Endangered Species

Threatened and Endangered Species can significantly affect various aspects of a project by limiting project areas, delaying project timelines and even halting certain project activities from occurring. Threatened and Endangered Species studies can include initial screenings, onsite habitat assessments, presence/absence surveys or site-specific studies and can even include relocation efforts or United States Fish and Wildlife Service Section 10 permits.

Threatened and Endangered Species studies are required by Federal, State, City and even County regulatory permitting processes. A brief list of typical permitting actions which require Threatened and Endangered Species evaluations are presented below:

  • Construction and other development activities
  • Section 404 Permits
  • Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permits (TPDES)
  • Sand and Gravel Permits
  • Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) and Conditional Letter of Map Revision (CLOMR)

Threatened Species Consultants

For over 20 years Arroyo scientists have successfully completed Threatened and Endangered Species studies and/or provided expert technical review of these studies for hundreds of regulatory permitting actions. Arroyo scientists have also been retained as scientific experts regarding potential environmental impacts to threatened and endangered species resulting from permitting actions. Arroyo can assist Clients and project team members with avoiding critical habitats or completing necessary scientific studies to obtain environmental permits.

Arroyo staff have completed site specific investigations for a wide range of aquatic and terrestrial threatened and endangered species including: the Texas Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma cornutum), Golden-cheeked Warbler (Setophaga chrysoparia), Black-capped Vireo (Vireo atricapilla), Red-cockaded Woodpecker (Picoides borealis), Comal Springs riffle beetle (Heterelmis comalensis) and initial geologic screening for karst species.
