Biological

For over 20 years Arroyo staff have been completing rapid bioassessment studies on various streams, rivers, bayous, bays and lakes throughout Texas and the Midwest. These biological studies can include the collection of water quality data, habitat data, riparian community information, stream channel data, fish and benthic macroinvertebrate samples and, on occasion, mussel samples.

Receiving Water Assessment (RWA) and Use Attainability Analysis (UAA)

Arroyo’s Owner and Managing Scientist have extensive knowledge and experience with successfully completing Receiving Water Assessments and Use Attainability Analysis studies for numerous Texas Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (TPDES) permitting actions. In Addition, Arroyo staff have been retained as scientific and TPDES experts for numerous permitting actions. The Arroyo team has successfully designed and completed various biological studies to meet project and/or permitting needs.

Instream Flow Studies

Arroyo staff are intimately involved in the Instream Flow Program for the State of Texas and continue to build on years of experience ranging from onsite field activities to study plan design and resource agency coordination. Arroyo continues to strengthen relationships with river authorities and agency staff across the State while completing various scientific studies related to the Instream Flow Program.

Instream Flow work has included the collection, processing and analysis of bathymetry, river discharge, riparian, habitat, fish, macroinvertebrate, mussel and water quality data.

Environmental Restoration

Over the years Arroyo staff worked in unique and sensitive areas to improve critical habitat for various aquatic and terrestrial species including federally threatened and/or endangered species. Restoration efforts have included activities in forested and emergent wetlands, upland prairies, mixed forests, reservoirs, streams, spring-fed lakes and recreational ponds. Work has focused on habitat improvement, exotic species removal, erosion control, re-vegetation, active monitoring, stocking, etc. See our blog for recent project information.
